A medical technologist is the same thing as a medical or clinical lab scientist. The title abbreviations, MT, MLS and CLS are used interchangeably throughout the healthcare field.


According to the ASCP Board of Certifications, the credentialing title of MT (ASCP) was updated with the word “laboratory” in 2022 to increase the visibility of the laboratory community in healthcare settings.
